LEVEL 4 CERTIFICATE IN SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY (QCF)

Course Overview

A runner who moments earlier finished the Los Angeles Marathon lies on his front in a volunteer massage tent to receive a massage. Santa Monica, CaliforniaThis L4 sports massage course is a vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a sports massage practitioner working with injured clients. It includes all the required elements for you to work effectively in the advanced field of sports massage therapy.  The L4 is a natural progression to the L3 because it allows you to work on injured soft tissue, as opposed to only dysfunctional.

Our L4 Sports Massage Course is accredited with Active IQ, one of the leading awarding bodies in the industry.  Upon completion you will be able to gain insurance from any of the major insurers, allowing you to carry out advanced massage techniques and treat injured soft tissue with peace of mind.

In combination with our L3 course and your massage log, you will have covered all the required course content, over the required amount of time, to gain membership of the Sports Massage Association (SMA).

L4 Sports Massage Course Units

  • Conducting Subjective and Objective Assessment
  • Provide Sports Massage Techniques to Prevent and Manage Injury
  • Treatment Modalities to Support Soft Tissue Repair

As a L4 sports therapist you will have the required skills and confidence to assess a wide range of injuries at all major joints of the body,  using a range of clinical, functional movement and muscle testing protocols.  In addition to being able to treat pathological (injured) tissue, your advanced skills will mean you will be able to treat muscle dysfunctions more efficiently and more effectively than L3 practitioners.

Prerequisites

The Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF)

Course Format

It is possible to complete the Level 4 Sports Massage Course within 4 months. Choose between 6 weekend days (9.30am to 4.30pm) , 6 Wednesdays (9.30am to 4.30 pm), or 10 evening sessions, 6pm to 9.30pm. There will be approximately 40 hours tutor contact time, up to 10 hours of home study a week, plus an observation day.

Much of your contact time with the tutor will focus on developing your practical techniques and confidence whilst treating injured clients. This will involve you working on fellow students and treating a range of clients provided by York Holistic Training.   Class sizes are kept small so you can receive the one on one tuition necessary for you to get the most out of this course.

The majority of the theory content will be completed by you at home, but will be reinforced throughout your practical sessions.

You will also have access to YHT’s online learning videos to support your practical skill development at home. This is life time access, allowing you to view new and updated videos post certification.

Student numbers allowing, past and current students are also offered the opportunity to observe or act as clients in classes they have already taken in order to consolidate learning, free of charge.

Your tutor, Rachel Booth, has been a practicing sports massage therapist and lecturer for many years; specialising in NeuroKinetic muscle testing, related remedial treatment and exercise and pain management.  She is always either a phone call or an email away if clarification and guidance is required between tutor contact sessions.
