LEVEL 4 CERTIFICATE IN SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY (QCF)

Course Overview

L4 Sports Massage courseThis L4 sports massage course is a vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a sports massage practitioner working with injured clients. It includes all the required elements for you to work effectively in the advanced field of sports massage therapy.  The L4 is a natural progression to the L3 because it allows you to work on injured soft tissue, as opposed to only dysfunctional.

Our L4 Sports Massage Course is accredited with Active IQ, one of the leading awarding bodies in the industry.  Upon completion you will be able to gain insurance from any of the major insurers, allowing you to carry out advanced massage techniques and treat injured soft tissue with peace of mind.

In combination with our L3 course and your massage log, you will have covered all the required course content, over the required amount of time, to gain membership of the Sports Massage Association (SMA).

As a L4 sports therapist you will have the required skills and confidence to assess a wide range of injuries at all major joints of the body,  using a range of clinical, functional movement and muscle testing protocols.  In addition to being able to treat pathological (injured) tissue, your advanced skills will mean you will be able to treat muscle dysfunctions more efficiently and more effectively than L3 practitioners.

Prerequisites

The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF)

Course Format

  • It is possible to complete the Level 4 Sports Massage Course within 3 months.  There will be approximately 40 hours tutor contact time and up to 10 hours of home study a week.  For tutor contact time, choose between  6 Wednesdays or 6 weekend days.
  • Much of your contact time with the tutor will focus on developing your practical techniques and confidence whilst treating injured clients. This will involve you working on fellow students, your friends/family and clients provided by York Holistic Training.   Class sizes are kept small so you can receive the one on one tuition necessary for you to get the most out of this course.
  • The majority of the theory content will be completed by you at home, but will be reinforced throughout your practical sessions.
  • You will also have access to YHT’s online learning videos to support your practical skill development at home. You are given access to this upon booking so you can begin learning straight away, and is life time access, allowing you to view new and updated videos post certification.
  • Student numbers allowing, past and current students are also offered the opportunity to observe or act as clients in classes they have already taken in order to consolidate learning, free of charge.
  • Your tutor, Rachel Booth, has been a practicing sports massage therapist and lecturer for many years; specialising in NeuroKinetic muscle testing, related remedial treatment and exercise and pain management. She is always either a phone call or an email away if clarification and guidance is required between tutor contact sessions.

Course Assessment

Assessment for the Level 4 Sports Massage Course is largely ongoing in the form of a production of a portfolio of evidence.  This contains 3 worksheets, a short information sheet, a massage log and evidence of 5 practical observations. Your ability to apply advanced assessment techniques and massage methods to injuries at different joints will take place throughout the course, in order to avoid assessment overload towards the end.

There is no theory examination for this course.

Accreditation
This course is accredited with Active IQ and therefore fully insurable. The duration and nature of the course ensures that upon completion of L4 you will eligible for membership of the Sports Massage Association (SMA).

Course Fees and Payment Options

The cost for this L4 sports massage course is £1350 for the Wednesday course delivery and £1450 for the weekend delivery.  A deposit of £350 for the Wednesday course or £450 for the weekend, made by bank transfer, is required upon booking. You then have 2 options:

Option 1 – Full Payment
Pay the remaining £1000 course fee on the 1st of the month immediately proceeding your booking

or

Option 2 – 0% Interest Free Credit
Pay monthly instalments of £250 by standing order starting from the 1st of the month immediately proceeding your booking.

The course fee covers all tuition, related equipment, assessment, examination fees, certification and course manual.
